Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
The political drama in Patna took a fresh turn as Prashant Kishor, political strategist and founder of Jan Suraaj, was sent to 14 days in judicial custody after refusing to pay his bail bond. Senior Advocate Y V Giri of the Patna High Court said the decision is expected to be finalized soon.
Kishor was arrested on January 6, following his detention during the early hours for participating in an illegal protest at Gandhi Maidan. After undergoing a medical examination at Patna AIIMS, he was presented before the Patna Civil Court, where he was granted bail on a personal bond of ₹25,000. However, Kishor declined to pay the bond, citing his commitment to the ongoing hunger strike and his stand against what he described as "youth-related injustices."
The court imposed conditions on his bail, barring him from participating in future protests that could disrupt law and order. Kishor’s refusal to accept these terms was reinforced by a statement from his team, which asserted that his hunger strike would continue and that he was willing to go to jail if standing for the youth's cause was deemed a crime.
Kishor's hunger strike at Gandhi Maidan was in support of the demands of BPSC candidates, raising five key points related to the examination process and governance. His detention triggered significant unrest among his supporters, many of whom created a ruckus when he was taken to Patna AIIMS for a medical check-up.
The Patna District Administration stated that Kishor and several others were protesting illegally in a restricted area near the Gandhi statue at Gandhi Maidan. Despite being served notices and requested to relocate the protest to the designated site at Gardanibagh, the protesters refused to comply, leading to the registration of an FIR at Gandhi Maidan police station.
